Egypt legend Hossam Hassan has been named as the new head coach of the Egyptian national team.

The appointment, made on Tuesday, February 6th, came after the Egyptian Football Association fired Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria following Egypt’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Hassan, 57, has gained extensive coaching experience over the last 16 years, having managed several clubs including Al Masry and Modern Future.

The Egyptian FA reportedly considered other coaches for the position, including two-time Africa Cup of Nations winning coach Herve Renard, before settling on Hassan.
