The Deputy National Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer, has raised concerns about the readiness of the Electoral Commission (EC) for the upcoming December 2024 general elections in Ghana.

Dr. Rashid expressed worry about the lack of submission of the EC’s program of activities, which brings into question the commission’s preparedness for the general elections. Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile, he cited the recent District Assembly elections as evidence of the EC’s lack of readiness, citing issues such as a shortage of ballot papers and problems with the electoral register as hindrances that prevented some people from voting.

He also highlighted that the EC is currently advertising for people to apply to become returning officers for the upcoming elections, yet the Commission has not submitted its program of activities to the political parties as required.

Dr. Rashid emphasized that the absence of a roadmap for the 2024 election from the EC and its failure to provide a program of activities during IPAC meetings signifies a lack of readiness for the December 2024 elections.

These concerns raised by Dr. Rashid bring to light the urgency for the EC to address these issues and adequately prepare for the upcoming general elections. This is a crucial aspect of ensuring a smooth and efficient electoral process in Ghana in 2024.
