The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called for a collaborative effort to address the challenges facing the country’s football sector.

During a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Bagbin stressed the importance of working together in the wake of Ghana’s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire.

Addressing his colleagues in Parliament, Bagbin declared, “It is imperative that we come together to deliberate on the current state of Ghana’s football and develop a comprehensive strategy for the future.

“Parliament is willing to cooperate with other stakeholders in pursuit of this common objective.”

Ghana failed to progress to the Round of 16 after finishing third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde and then played to 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, ultimately resulting in their elimination from the competition.

For the second consecutive tournament, the Black Stars exited at the group stage without securing a victory, extending the country’s AFCON title drought to 42 years.
