Former Assistant coach of the Black Stars, George Boateng, has opened up about the disappointment of Ghana’s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Boateng, who previously played for the Dutch national team, was part of the coaching staff under sacked Black Stars coach Chris Hughton during the AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Following Ghana’s failure to secure a single victory in the group stages, the team was unable to progress to the knockout phase.

Speaking to Sky Sports, George Boateng stressed the importance of the coaching staff and players reflecting on their performance during the disappointing AFCON campaign.

“It was tough to come to terms with the fact that we didn’t advance to the next stage, but that’s football,” Boateng said. “As a coaching staff, it’s important to take responsibility, assess what went wrong in collaboration with the FA and the players, and ensure that we learn from it to improve for the next opportunity.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association is currently in the process of selecting a new head coach for the Black Stars.
