The declining performance of Ghana’s national football team has prompted Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, to call on the government to intervene and protect the country’s football industry.

After the team’s disappointing showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Annoh-Dompreh emphasized the need for action to be taken to address the issues plaguing the senior national team, the Black Stars.

During a session in Parliament, Annoh-Dompreh stated, “We must all acknowledge that there are problems with the way our senior national team is being managed. There is definitely something wrong.”

He also highlighted the importance of implementing specific reforms, even if it means risking FIFA sanctions. “If we need to intervene to protect the sport, then we must do so,” he added.

Ghana’s failure to advance to the Round of 16 at the recent AFCON was attributed to their third-place finish in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

Following a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde and back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, the Black Stars were eliminated from the tournament.

This marked the second consecutive tournament in which the team was unable to progress beyond the group stage without securing a victory, adding to the country’s 42-year wait for its fifth AFCON title.
