Ghanaian artiste Wutah Kobby, also known as Nyarko Daniel Morris, has made controversial remarks about marriage, saying partners should consider staying in casual relationships instead of getting married.

The 41-year-old member of the defunct music group ‘Wutah’ believes that marriage has lost its true purpose, which has led to a surge in divorce cases.

In an interview with Cape Coast’s Property FM, Wutah Kobby expressed his opinion, saying, “This is a very sensitive question and what I’m about to say will make me a little bit unpopular but I think left to me alone people should not marry.”

He suggested that people should focus on building friendships and different levels of relationships instead of rushing into marriage because love is something that should naturally evolve. He pointed out that the institution of marriage, which is meant to bring two people together to improve themselves, has now become a dependency situation, draining many individuals.

Wutah Kobby believes that casual relationships could actually last longer than marriages because there is less pressure and dependency involved.

The artiste’s comments have sparked a debate on the value and importance of marriage in modern society. Whether or not his remarks will gain traction remains to be seen, but they have certainly brought attention to the shifting perceptions of marriage in Ghanaian culture.
