Officials at the Guinness World Records have revealed the reason behind Afua Asantewaa’s unsuccessful attempt at a singathon.

In a statement to Joy FM, they explained that Afua failed to meet the guidelines regarding rest break timings, which are standard across all ‘longest marathon’ records.

The announcement came after Afua Asantewaa attempted to break the longest singing marathon record in December 2023. Despite her effort, the Guinness World Records confirmed on Friday, February 23, 2024, that she did not succeed in surpassing the existing record set in 2012 at 105 hours.

In response to the news of her disqualification, Afua Asantewaa took to social media to express her gratitude for the support she received from her fans. She also mentioned that she would announce her next course of action in the coming days.

Despite the setback, the Guinness World Records expressed admiration for Afua’s determination and wished her luck in any future record attempts. They also refunded the money her team paid for a priority review.

Following her singathon attempt, Afua Asantewaa has been appointed as a Tourism Ambassador by the Ghana Tourism Authority. Her dedication and perseverance have gained recognition, and it remains to be seen what record-breaking feats she may pursue in the future.
