A security guard working at the home of popular rapper Drake in Toronto, Canada, was shot in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident took place outside the gate of Drake’s residence, and the guard was found wounded and taken to the hospital in serious condition, according to Inspector Paul Krawczyk from Toronto Police.
Although it has not been confirmed whether Drake was present at the time of the shooting, authorities have stated that they are in contact with the artist’s team, who are cooperating with the investigation.
The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and Krawczyk mentioned that there were multiple suspects involved who fled the scene in a vehicle. Investigators are currently reviewing video footage of the incident.
Drake’s representatives have declined to comment on the matter when approached by CNN. As one of the best-selling recording artists of all time and a five-time Grammy Award winner, Drake’s recent feud with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar has attracted significant attention. The ongoing lyrical battle between the two artists has sparked debate among their fans, with each releasing songs targeting the other.
Drake’s accolades include being the first artist to sell over 200 million units, as recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America. Despite the escalating tensions between Drake and Lamar, representatives for Lamar were not available for immediate comment on the situation.
The incident at Drake’s home has raised concerns about the safety and security of celebrities and their properties in the public eye.
