Gladiators, Deadpool and Dwayne Johnson dominate CinemaCon 2024

The annual CinemaCon event in Las Vegas has been a buzz with excitement as cinema owners, stars, and executives gather to showcase their latest productions.

This year’s event featured appearances from Ariana Grande, Dwayne Johnson, and teasers for upcoming releases such as Moana 2 and Joker: Folie à Deux.

Walt Disney Studios had two major reveals at the event, including unreleased clips from Deadpool and Wolverine, as well as Moana 2. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman virtually opened the presentation with a nine-minute trailer for Deadpool, much to the delight of the audience. Dwayne Johnson also made an appearance, introducing a clip of Moana 2 where he reprises his role as Maui.

Paramount Pictures took the stage to share the first trailer of Gladiator II at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The all-action clip features a star-studded cast including Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Joseph Quinn.

Universal Pictures announced a sequel to the successful Five Nights at Freddy’s, set for release in autumn 2025. The studio hopes to replicate the success of the first film, which made £107 million globally in its opening weekend.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande introduced an extended trailer of the musical film Wicked at CinemaCon. The film features the iconic songs Popular and Defying Gravity, with the actresses expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to portray their characters.

Despicable Me 4 is set to be released soon, with new characters introduced to the minion world. The film follows Gru as he teams up with Poppy to steal a honey badger, with the help of other minions and Gru’s new baby son.

Angel Studios, known for Sound of Freedom, predicted that their next release, the Biblical epic David, will be the most successful animated film of all time. The studio aims to break records with this film and bring back their initiative to allow people to donate money for tickets for others.

The long-awaited sequel to Joker was showcased at CinemaCon, featuring Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix as Joker. The trailer teases a unique storyline where the characters meet and fall in love in Arkham Asylum before escaping and forming a musical duo.
