Dreams FC coach Karim Zito explains why he didn’t apply for Black Stars coaching job

Dreams FC tactician Abdul Karim Zito has revealed his decision not to apply for the vacant Black Stars coaching job, citing personal reasons for his choice.

Following the dismissal of coach Chris Hughton and his technical team after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the Ghana Football Association is currently on the hunt for a suitable candidate to take on the role of head coach for the national team.

Despite the disappointment of Ghana’s early exit from the AFCON tournament, the GFA is focused on identifying a coach who embodies the winning spirit of Ghanaian football and shares a coaching philosophy that aligns with the ethos of the national team. Nsoatreman FC coach Maxwell Konadu and former Kotoko and Bibiani Goldstars gaffer Michael Osei are among the indigenous coaches who have thrown their hats into the ring for the position.

However, Zito, a highly experienced coach in the country, has made it clear that he chose not to pursue the Black Stars coaching job, emphasizing that his decision was not due to any lack of capability on his part. He pointed out that he and others affiliated with Kurt Okraku have faced unjust circumstances, referencing false claims of his involvement with the Under 17 team and issues with player selection.

Zito expressed his dislike for the unfair treatment he received and the subsequent insults, leading him to make the choice to refrain from applying for the position. Despite the setbacks, he remains committed to his coaching career and the growth of the sport in Ghana.
