Tom Cruise to star in new Alejandro G. Iñárritu movie

Tom Cruise is set to star in an upcoming film from renowned filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The project, which serves as Iñárritu’s first English-language film since the critically acclaimed “The Revenant,” is being acquired by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film is penned by Iñárritu, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolas Giacobone.

The collaboration comes after Cruise recently signed a deal with Warner Bros., leading to speculation about what the partnership will yield. Cruise has expressed a desire to work with auteurs and step away from franchise projects. In addition to the new film, Cruise is currently working on the next “Mission” movie and is developing a feature that would be shot in space.

Iñárritu, after directing the Spanish-language Netflix drama “Bardo,” enjoyed critical success with “The Revenant,” which earned over $500 million worldwide and won him the Best Director Oscar. The filmmaker previously achieved acclaim with “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance).”

The news of this exciting new project first broke from a report by Deadline.

The partnership between Cruise and Iñárritu is sure to raise the notion that the actor is aiming for a prestige play, following the success of Iñárritu’s previous projects.
