Ivory Coast midfielder Seko Fofana expressed his joy after his team’s win over Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Elephant defeated the Super Eagles at the Stade Olympic Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan to claim their third continental title. They rallied from behind to secure a 2-1 victory on home soil on Sunday night.
William Troost-Ekong scored the opening goal in the first half, giving the Super Eagles the lead at halftime. However, Ivory Coast put on an impressive performance, coming back from a goal down to clinch a 2-1 win and the championship.
Frank Kessie scored the equalizer before Sabastian Haller sealed the victory in the 81st minute. Reflecting on the win, Fofana credited their success to grace.
“This is grace. Sometimes, God puts you in a situation to show you that you need to change something. We are very happy because this competition was not easy. There were a lot of good teams, so congratulations to everyone,” Fofana said.
The win brought joy and excitement to the people of Ivory Coast as they celebrated their team’s accomplishment in the prestigious tournament.
