Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has raised concerns about the investment in the senior national football team, the Black Stars, stating that there is no value for money.

The discussion about value for money comes after the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, revealed in Parliament that the Ghana Football Association and his ministry budgeted to spend $8.5 million at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite significant investments in the team, Ghana has struggled to make an impact in recent major tournaments, failing to qualify out of the group stage in the last three competitions.

During a session in Parliament, Ablakwa emphasized, “Mr Speaker, the $3 million spent on the three matches, in which the team performed poorly, exceeds the budget of other countries for the entire tournament.”

He further pointed out that “Nigeria budgeted $1.8 million, Zambia budgeted $2.1 million, and these figures are available in the public domain. There is no value for money.”
