Ghana’s Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has revealed a new vision for the country’s sports ministry during a crucial address to Parliament. The focus will now shift towards the development of colts football and inter-school competitions.

This strategic shift comes on the heels of Ghana’s disappointing performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where the Black Stars failed to advance past the group stage, only managing to secure two points.

Hon. Ussif openly acknowledged the nation’s disappointment with the Black Stars’ showing and stressed the need for substantial changes within the football landscape.

At the heart of the Ministry’s repositioning is a firm commitment to nurturing grassroots talent through the establishment of strong colts football leagues and inter-school tournaments across Ghana.

“The Ministry also aims to support grassroots football development by identifying and nurturing talents through the establishment of Colts football and inter-school competitions nationwide,” he stated.

“This is crucial to regain the confidence of Ghanaians through better management and improved performances by the National Team in all competitions,” he added.
