The KGL Millennium Marathon’s tenth edition was officially launched on Thursday, February 15, at the KGL Group Ghana office in Accra.
The marathon has a history of ten years, having been initiated in 2015. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on September 7 and will feature several prominent landmarks in Accra, such as the Accra Sports Stadium, Osu Oxford Street, Prisons Headquarters, Nationalism Park, World Trade Centre, and Jubilee House.
The launch was graced by the presence of Evans Bobie Opoku, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, as well as representatives of the marathon’s sponsors.
Notably, the Race Director & Managing Partner at Millennium Marathon announced that the event has been certified by World Athletics, making it the first Ghanaian event to achieve such recognition.
Furthermore, the marathon this year will introduce timing chips to ensure maximum accuracy for professional competitors and enhance the level of competition.
Additionally, a total of GH₵ 75,000 will be awarded to the winner of the 21km event, and athletes can register for the 21km category at GH₵ 100, or for the 5km run at GH₵ 70.
