Former Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan manager, Jose Mourinho has shared his reaction to Ivory Coast’s success over Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Prior to the game, the Portuguese tactician had expressed his belief that Nigeria would win the tournament, citing his relationship with Jose Peseiro.
However, it was the Ivory Coast who emerged victorious over the Super Eagles at the Stade Olympic Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, securing their third continental title.
Despite William Troost-Ekong’s opening goal for Nigeria in the first half, the Ivory Coast staged an impressive comeback to secure a 2-1 victory on home soil on Sunday night.
Frank Kessie scored the equalizer for Ivory Coast before Sabastian Haller sealed the victory in the 81st minute.
Following the match, Mourinho admitted, “Ivory Coast was better than us.”
Currently without a club after departing from Serie A outfit AS Roma, Mourinho was relieved of his duties after failing to meet expectations in the ongoing season.
