The owner of Karela United, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed that he is personally covering the costs for watering the football pitch at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
This revelation brings to light the surprising fact that the responsibility for this maintenance task lies with the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Traditionally, the NSA receives funds from clubs that utilize the national stadia, with a portion of these funds designated for the upkeep of the stadiums, including the watering of the pitches.
Expressing dismay over the poor state of the pitch at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Haruna Iddrisu disclosed that he has taken it upon himself to ensure that the pitch is properly watered.
He stated, “I’m facing challenges in securing a stadium for training sessions and matches. This weekend, we are scheduled to face Asante Kotoko, and I had to relocate the match to Nalerigu due to complaints about the poor condition of the pitch.”
“Currently, I am personally covering the expenses for watering the pitch, as the condition is not conducive for play. I urgently require a suitable stadium for our matches,” he added.
Additionally, Haruna Iddrisu has called on the Sports Minister to monitor the situation at the Tamale Sports Stadium, emphasizing the importance of maintaining proper playing surfaces for sporting activities.
