Former Black Stars defender, Samuel Inkoom, has advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to welcome feedback and constructive criticism following the disappointing performance of the national team at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Inkoom made these comments during an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz, as there has been an increasing demand for reform within Ghana’s football administration.
While acknowledging the frustrations of fans and stakeholders, Inkoom emphasized that dissolving the GFA would not solve the underlying issues facing Ghanaian football.
“It is not the dissolution of the FA that will help us, but what I would add is, they should also be receptive to the ideas others bring on board because we are all looking for the best interest of the game,” he asserted.
The call for change has been gaining traction, with notable journalists organizing the ‘Save Ghana Football’ march in Accra on February 14. Participants in the march have been pushing for significant changes in the governance of Ghana Football.
Following the march, a petition was submitted to Parliament, urging lawmakers to address the crisis in Ghanaian football. The petition has since been referred to the Committee on Youth and Sports for further consideration.
Some MPs have expressed worry over the decline in the fortunes of the sport, with one suggesting government intervention despite the risk of a FIFA ban.
