Egypt legend Hossam Hassan has been named as the new head coach of the Egyptian national team.
The appointment, made on Tuesday, February 6th, came after the Egyptian Football Association fired Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria following Egypt’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Hassan, 57, has gained extensive coaching experience over the last 16 years, having managed several clubs including Al Masry and Modern Future.
He is widely adored in the country, having been a prolific striker during his playing days, scoring 69 goals for the Pharaohs in 178 international matches.
The Egyptian FA reportedly considered other coaches for the position, including two-time Africa Cup of Nations winning coach Herve Renard, before settling on Hassan.
With his vast experience and impressive playing career, all eyes will be on Hassan as he steps into this new role.
His success as head coach will be crucial in winning the support of the Egyptian people.
