Former Hearts of Oak CEO, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe, has shared his thoughts on the recently departed Black Stars Coach, Chris Hughton, and believes Hughton did not fully utilize the potential of the team he inherited.

Mortagbe commended the team for their promising performance at the World Cup in Qatar and had hoped to see further growth under Hughton’s leadership.

However, in an interview with Graphic Sports, Mortagbe expressed disappointment with the team’s progress, noting that they struggled rather than showing the expected improvement.

“Chris Hughton inherited a squad that had shown a lot of promise in Qatar during the World Cup. I had expected the team to, under him, improve even more. Rather, we saw the team floundering from match to match,” he said.

Hughton was dismissed following Ghana’s disappointing performance at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Ghana failed to advance to the Round of 16 after finishing third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde and managed back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.
