Alhassan Suhuyini, the Member of Parliament for Tamale North, has made a shocking revelation about the amount of money Ghana spent during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to the NDC MP, Ghana spent over three million dollars in three group stage matches to build contacts and sell players, a move that has left him unhappy.

Suhuyini expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Ghana invested such a large amount in the tournament in Ivory Coast but still failed to make it past the group stage.

During a session in Parliament, the former journalist boldly stated, “It is no longer a benefit for Ghana for the Black Stars to participate in an Africa Cup of Nations especially when we are spending over US$3 million.”

He went on to question the validity of spending such a hefty amount for people to build contacts, asking, “Did we have to spend over US$3 million for people to build contacts? Is this what is worth over 3 million that has been spent?”

Ghana’s disappointing performance in the tournament saw them miss out on a place in the Round of 16 after finishing third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars experienced a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, followed by back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, ultimately leading to their elimination from the competition.

This marked the second successive tournament in which the Black Stars exited at the group stage without registering a win, further prolonging the country’s wait for its fifth AFCON title to 42 years.
