Andre Ayew, the captain of the Black Stars, has issued an apology to Ghanaians following the team’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Ayew took to Instagram to express his remorse, acknowledging the difficult time that Ghanaians have experienced in the past days.

The captain admitted that both he and the entire team were also struggling after their elimination from the tournament, stating, “This past days have been very difficult for every Ghanaian and every Ghanaian football fan, and myself.”

In his video message, Ayew expressed his regret for the team’s performance, acknowledging that they should have achieved better results. Ghana failed to advance to the Round of 16 after finishing third in their group, which included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, followed by back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, which ultimately led to their elimination.

This marks the second consecutive tournament in which Ghana has exited at the group stage without securing a win, extending the country’s AFCON title drought to 42 years.
