DR Congo coach, Sabastian Desabre, remains upbeat despite a missed bronze medal at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
The DR Congo team narrowly missed out on the bronze medal following a goalless draw in the 3rd place playoff, which ended with a disappointing 6-5 loss to South Africa in Abidjan on Saturday, February 10.
Desabre stated, “We aimed to end the competition on a high note, but our inability to convert chances affected our placement. However, I’m proud of the remarkable competition we’ve had and the dedication shown by the players throughout these past weeks. Although we finished fourth, it’s evident that the boys gave their all on the pitch, even when fatigued.”
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Desabre emphasized, “Today’s takeaway is witnessing the unwavering commitment of our players, demonstrating that with such determination, we can achieve great things.
Our performance in this AFCON is commendable, especially considering our absence in the previous edition. It’s a testament to our progress, and we can take pride in that.”
