Ivory Coast president, Alassane Outtara, has shown his appreciation to the players and technical team of the Elephants team for their remarkable victory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Despite their initial struggles in the group phase, Ivory Coast defied the odds and emerged as the champions of the 34th edition of the AFCON.
In an intense final match against Nigeria, who were vying for their fourth title, the Elephants came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory with goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller in the second half.
During a special gathering to honor the players, interim coach Emerse Fae, who led the team to success, was awarded €150,000. In addition, the entire technical team received €600,000, and each player was honored with a prize of €76,000.
Furthermore, the Elephants will receive $7m (£5.54m) in prize money, while Nigeria has been awarded $4m by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
