George Boateng, former Ghana assistant coach, shared his thoughts on the disappointment of Ghana not advancing out of the group stage in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Appearing as a guest on Sky Sports for the final match between Ivory Coast and Nigeria, Boateng expressed how difficult it was to accept not progressing to the next stage, but acknowledged that it’s part of football.
He emphasized the importance of taking responsibility as a coaching staff, evaluating what went wrong, and learning from the experience to ensure improvement for the next opportunity.
Ghana’s third-place finish in a group with Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique led to their elimination from the tournament. The Black Stars’ failure to secure a win, with a loss to Cape Verde and two draws against Egypt and Mozambique, resulted in their exit at the group stage for the second consecutive tournament.
As a result, Ghana’s quest for a fifth AFCON title continues, now spanning 42 years.
