Ghana’s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been attributed to various factors by the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante-Twum.

Despite arriving in Ivory Coast with confidence, the Black Stars began their campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde.

In their last two Group B games, Ghana managed to draw 2-2 with both Egypt and Mozambique, finishing in 3rd place with just two points.

The disappointing performance led to an early elimination, dashing hopes of winning a fifth continental title.

Asante-Twum reflected on the last two matches and cited several factors that affected the team’s performance, ultimately leading to their failure to progress.

“When you cast your mind back to the game against Egypt and Mozambique, you could see certain factors affected our performance and that prevented us from qualifying for the next round of the tournament,” Mr Asante-Twum told News File on Joy FM.

Ghana’s premature elimination means the Black Stars have suffered a group phase exit for the second consecutive time.

As a result of the team’s poor performance, then head coach Chris Hughton has been let go from his position.
