Match officials from Togo will oversee proceedings when Asante Kotoko and Asec Mimosas face off in this year’s President’s Cup.

Asante Kotoko and the Ivorian giants will compete for the 2024 President’s Cup trophy on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, just one day before Ghana’s 67th Independence Day.

The match will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, with both heads of state, Nana Akufo-Addo and Alassane Ouattara, expected to be in attendance.

In order to ensure fairness, the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has requested the Ghana Football Association to appoint a neutral referee to officiate the clash between the two African heavyweights.

However, it has been confirmed that the highly-anticipated encounter will be officiated by referees from Togo.

Hearts of Oak currently hold the President’s Cup after narrowly defeating Asante Kotoko in the 2023 edition.

On the other hand, Asante Kotoko boast the most titles in the Cup competition, having clinched the trophy eight times.

The GHALCA President’s Cup is an annual football tournament that brings together two top clubs at the end of the season. Also known as the Republic Day Celebrations Cup, the match is held in honor of the sitting President of Ghana and is usually played in July to coincide with Ghana’s Republic Day celebrations.
