Sad news has hit the entertainment industry as Nollywood actor, John Okafor, fondly known as Mr Ibu, has passed away.

The actor reportedly breathed his last on Saturday, March 2, 2024. This news comes after a period of illness and struggle for Mr Ibu.

In October 2023, reports emerged that the veteran actor was battling with health issues and was in need of financial support. Unfortunately, in November 2023, it was confirmed by his family that one of his legs had to be amputated in a bid to save his life.

According to his former manager Emeka Chochoo, the amputation was necessary due to an undetected infection in the arteries at the ankle, which led to complications and ultimately the loss of his leg.

The news of Mr Ibu’s passing has left his colleagues and fans in shock, with many taking to social media to express their condolences and mourn his loss.

Messages of grief and tribute have poured in from fellow actors, with Mercy Johnson Okojie writing, “It is well… Rest well sir…” and Ruth Kadiri adding, “Sleep well Papa.”
