Renowned Ghanaian fashion designer and creative director of the Poqua Poqu brand, Pokua Poku-Mouhtiseb, has passed away at the age of 42. The family has not yet announced her cause of death, although there are widespread reports that she passed away at Lister Hospital due to complications during childbirth.
A friend of Pokua, former NPP parliamentary aspirant Afia Akoto, confirmed the news of the fashion designer’s passing on her Facebook page. Pokua is survived by her husband and three children.
Since its establishment in 2011, the Poqua Poqu brand has been a hub for luxury women’s fashion, boasting celebrity customers such as Anita Erskine, Eugenia Tachie-Menson, Ayesha Bedwei Ibe, Shirley Emma Tibilla, Claudia Lumor, Lady Dentaa Amoateng MBE, and Menaye Donkor among others.
The news of Pokua Poku-Mouhtiseb’s passing has led to an outpouring of grief on social media. TV personality Vanessa Gyan expressed her sorrow and concern about the maternal health sector in Ghana, stating that too many women are losing their lives during and after childbirth.
