The Chief Operating Officer of Plugin Media, Francis Doku, is advocating for policy makers to harness the potential of traditional festivals in Ghana.

During a presentation on Joy FM’s CREATIVE INDUSTRY MANIFESTO series, Doku emphasized the importance of prioritizing these festivals to boost Ghana’s tourism industry.

Doku highlighted the uniqueness of Ghana’s traditional festivals and stressed the need to brand and market them effectively. He suggested that with proper marketing support, similar to the successful Kwahu Easter festivities, these festivals could attract a wider audience beyond local communities.

In addition, Doku proposed modernizing road networks, transportation systems, and accommodation facilities to enhance the overall visitor experience at tourist attractions. He recommended a targeted marketing campaign, similar to The Year of Return, to showcase Ghana’s cultural heritage, natural beauty, and historical landmarks throughout the year.

To attract more international visitors, Doku also called for streamlining and simplifying the visa application process, positioning Ghana as a leader in visa reforms in Africa. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of tourists through emergency response systems, bespoke apps, and increased police presence.

Doku underscored the need to educate local communities about the benefits of tourism and involve them in the tourism development process to promote employment, inclusivity, and sustainable growth.
