A murder investigation was launched when a police officer was discovered deceased during a blizzard in the Boston area. The officer, John O’Keefe, was born on December 8, 1975. He served as a police officer in Braintree, Massachusetts, for 16 years and was well-loved by his family and colleagues.

O’Keefe’s family described him as a devoted son, brother, uncle, godfather, cousin, and friend. They spoke fondly of him, saying that he would always give the shirt off his back to help others. His sudden passing has left a void in their lives, and they are devastated to speak about him in the past tense.

The Boston Police Department also paid tribute to O’Keefe, describing him as a kind person dedicated to his family. They expressed their condolences to his loved ones and praised his exemplary service as a police officer.

On January 29, 2022, O’Keefe’s body was found outside his friend Brian Albert’s home. The night before, O’Keefe, his girlfriend Karen Read, and friends had been out barhopping. Due to an incoming snowstorm, they had returned to Albert’s residence for the night.

After returning to Albert’s house, O’Keefe and Read reportedly left to go home. Conflicting reports emerged about what happened next, leading to Read’s arrest on charges of manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide, and leaving the scene of a deadly crash. She was later indicted for second-degree murder.

Despite maintaining her innocence, Read and her legal team have been vocal about seeking the truth of what happened to O’Keefe. They have accused others of spearheading a cover-up and expressed frustration at the lack of support for their quest for justice.

Read’s trial for O’Keefe’s death began on April 29, 2024, and is expected to last between six to eight weeks. As the proceedings continue, the family and friends of John O’Keefe seek closure and justice for their beloved police officer.
