Zulu Adigwe, a renowned actor in Nollywood, has passed away. Abubakar Yakubu, the National Secretary of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirmed the actor’s death in an interview with Premium Times on Wednesday, April 24.

While the Guild awaits more details about his death and burial arrangements, the industry mourns the loss of a talented individual.

Adigwe, a first-class graduate in Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan, rose to fame in 1987 for his role as Mr B in the sitcom Basi and Company. Throughout his career, he showcased his acting skills in popular movies such as Isakaba, Unforgettable, Blood Diamond, and The Powerful Baby, among others. In 2019, he appeared in the blockbuster film Living in Bondage: Breaking Free.

Known for portraying roles as a chief, traditional ruler, father, or elder, Adigwe’s versatility and talent captivated audiences. His contribution to the Nigerian movie industry will always be remembered and celebrated.

Unfortunately, the industry has faced several losses this year, with nearly a dozen actors passing away. The most recent tragedy was the death of Junior Pope in a boat mishap en route to a movie set. Other actors who have left us include Adejumoke Aderounmu, Mr Ibu, Sisi Quadri, Olofa Ina, Amaechi Muonagor, Saratu Gidado, and Ethel Ekpe.

To address the recent spate of deaths in Nollywood, AGN President Emeka Rollas announced that popular Nigerian televangelist Jerry Eze will lead a four-day fasting and praying session. The intention behind this spiritual initiative is to pray against any further tragedies and seek protection for the industry’s members.
