The Tesla Cybertruck faced another setback in Los Angeles when one of the highly anticipated vehicles was involved in an accident outside The Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunday night.
A social media post addressed to Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Twitter showed a plea from a user whose friend’s new Cybertruck was crashed by a valet driver near the hotel’s entrance sign. The tweet included an image of the electric vehicle resting on the grass beside the hotel.
While the extent of the damage is uncertain, a photo posted on InsideEVs indicated that the front passenger side wheel was missing.
Contrary to initial claims, a representative from The Beverly Hills Hotel confirmed that the accident did not involve a hotel employee but rather the driver of the vehicle. The police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the area late Sunday night.
The user who first blamed the valet driver later admitted on social media that the valet was not responsible for the crash and apologized for the false accusation.
Tesla has promoted the Cybertruck as “apocalypse-proof,” highlighting its durability and toughness. However, questions arose after crash tests raised concerns about the vehicle’s safety.
Production challenges have also plagued Tesla, delaying the rollout of the Cybertruck from its original 2021 launch date to November 2023.
Despite these setbacks, Tesla has over 1 million unfilled Cybertruck reservations, with analysts projecting the company to deliver 48,500 units in 2024.
