Popular Nigerian actress, Amal Umar, has found herself in legal trouble after being arrested on charges of attempting to bribe a police officer in Kano state.
It is alleged that the actress tried to bribe the officer with 250,000 naira (£137; $175) in order to secure the release of her impounded car. However, her lawyer, Adama Usman, has denied the accusations, stating that it was actually the police officer who first requested money from Amal.
Known for her appearances in numerous movies over the past decade, Amal, who is affectionately called by fans in Kano’s film industry, Kannywood, has a massive following on social media and is recognized across neighboring countries.
The police claim that Amal’s car was seized over a year ago, suspected of being purchased with funds obtained through fraudulent activities linked to her boyfriend. Despite her lawyer’s defense, the police allege that Amal offered further payment to release her car.
Amal’s legal representative, Mrs. Usman, expressed their intention to continue fighting the case in court, maintaining that the actress was coerced. She emphasized that Amal has no involvement in her boyfriend’s alleged criminal activities, despite attempts to link her to them.
Currently out on bail, Amal faces charges related to the attempted bribery of a police officer. Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Ramadan Inuwa, remains at large and is wanted on accusations of obtaining money through false pretenses. As the legal battle ensues, Amal and her lawyer are determined to see justice prevail.
