Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is taking on a new challenge with his latest show, Twisted Metal.

In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Mackie revealed his surprising love for big trucks, despite his character in the show driving a sports car.

Describing himself as a “truck guy”, Mackie shared, “I drive a big Ford with a lift kit and big tyres. I am not a speed guy. I barely ever go over 25 miles an hour. I’m the guy driving and people drive past me and flip me off because I’m going too slow.”

Twisted Metal is based on the popular PlayStation game series and features Mackie as John Doe, a chatty “milkman” courier in a post-apocalyptic USA. The series follows John as he transports a mystery package across the country, navigating through a wasteland filled with dangerous gangs and the menacing clown mascot, Sweet Tooth.

Despite the intense premise, Twisted Metal is a comedy at heart. Mackie explained, “We didn’t want to overthink it. We didn’t want to take too much and put too much on it. The game didn’t really have a story, a background or a world that it was setting. It was just people blowing each other up.”

While some fans were initially skeptical of a TV adaptation of Twisted Metal due to its lack of story in the game, Mackie and the creators took on the challenge of building a new world for the show. The series has received mixed reviews, with some critics praising its silliness and others criticizing its thin storyline.

Mackie sees Twisted Metal as a fun and entertaining escape from the heavy content prevalent in today’s media landscape. He emphasized the show’s ability to provide light-hearted entertainment for viewers to enjoy without the pressure of actively participating in the storyline.

As for Mackie’s gaming preferences, he revealed that he is more of a fan of classic character-based games like Mario, rather than first-person shooter games. Despite his on-screen gaming adventures, don’t expect to see Mackie joining multiplayer games anytime soon.

Twisted Metal offers a unique blend of action, comedy, and a post-apocalyptic world for fans to immerse themselves in. Whether you’re a fan of the game or new to the series, Mackie’s portrayal of John Doe is sure to keep viewers entertained and engaged.
