Ace Nigerian actor, Segun Arinze, has recently shared the story of how he acquired his stage name. Originally named Segun Aina, the talented actor revealed that he transitioned to the name ‘Segun Arinze’ in 1991 when he ventured into the music industry.
During a recent conversation with Biola Bayo on the ‘TalktoB’ podcast, Arinze mentioned that he was pursuing a music career and was approached by someone from Sony Music who wanted to sign him. This led to the signing of a contract and plans to start recording music.
Arinze, who initially studied Dramatic Arts at Ife despite his father’s preference for him to become a lawyer, recalled the moment his name was changed to Segun Arinze during an open theatre event at the National Theatre.
The 58-year-old actor also shared an interesting anecdote about his entry into the voice-over industry. He credited renowned radio broadcaster Soni Irabor for introducing him to voice acting and recounted earning N1,000 for his first voice-over gig in 1987.
Reflecting on his journey in the entertainment industry, Arinze expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped his career. He emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities and making the most out of them.
