A biopic depicting the life and tragic death of George Floyd is in the works, set to be titled “Daddy Changed the World.”
Production companies Radar Pictures, 8 Queens Media, and Night Fox Entertainment are behind the film, with Floyd’s daughter, Gianna, and her mother, Roxie Washington, serving as executive producers.
The upcoming film will delve into the imperfections of Floyd’s life and the circumstances surrounding his brutal 2020 death at the hands of former officer Derek Chauvin, which ignited a global protest movement. The iconic phrase “I can’t breathe,” uttered by Floyd before his passing, has since become a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement.
While focusing on Floyd’s story, “Daddy Changed the World” aims to present a “gritty drama of a man and his community thrust into the fiery light of history.” Screenwriter Gregory R. Anderson, known for his work on “Stomp the Yard,” is attached to the project.
A statement from Roxie Washington expressed excitement for the world to see the real, joyful, and loving side of George Floyd.
The film is intended to humanize him, encapsulate the essence of his life, and potentially spark renewed efforts to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
Washington emphasized the need for swift changes to prevent other children from losing their fathers in the same tragic manner.
The legacy of George Floyd is set to endure through “Daddy Changed the World,” shedding light on his life and advocating for justice and equality for all.
