College football star Spencer Rattler has had quite the journey from playing for the Oklahoma Sooners and the South Carolina Gamecocks to now making his mark in the NFL.
Born on September 28, 2000, in Phoenix, Arizona, Rattler attended Pinnacle High School where he broke the Arizona high school passing record on his 18th birthday.
During his high school career, Rattler displayed his impressive skills by throwing 11,083 yards with 116 passing touchdowns and rushing for 1,040 yards with 14 rushing touchdowns. He was also named MVP of the Elite 11, a US quarterback competition, during his senior season.
Rattler’s talent caught the attention of many, and he even starred in season three of the Netflix sports documentary series, QB1: Beyond The Lights. However, his appearance in the show seemed to have impacted his drafting in the NFL. Despite a stellar college career, Rattler faced criticism for his involvement in the series, which showed him getting suspended during his senior year for violating the district code of conduct.
After a short stint at the University of Oklahoma, Rattler transferred to the University of South Carolina, where he led the team to successful seasons in 2022 and 2023. He was eventually selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, marking the longest wait between quarterback picks in draft history.
Alongside his successful football career, Rattler has had the support of his family, including his parents Michael “Mike” Rattler and Susan Konkel Rattler, and his sister Olivia Rattler, who is a college volleyball player.
Despite the highs and lows, Rattler’s girlfriend Yazmina Gonzalez has been by his side, with the couple being high school sweethearts and sharing a decade-long relationship.
