There has been significant interest in the case of Michael and Kristine Barnett since they were charged with allegedly abandoning their adopted daughter, Natalia Grace, who was believed to be a six-year-old girl at the time.
After adopting Natalia in 2010, the Barnetts moved to Canada with their three biological sons in 2013, leaving Natalia alone in an apartment in Indiana before filing for divorce the following year.
According to the Barnetts, strange and dangerous occurrences began soon after bringing Natalia into their home. They claimed that she attempted to harm them and their children on multiple occasions, and even tried to poison Kristine’s coffee. Despite the charges of neglect and conspiracy to commit neglect of a dependent in relation to Natalia’s abandonment, Michael was found not guilty, and Kristine’s charges were dropped.
The controversy surrounding Natalia extends to her age, as forensic evidence presented during the trial revealed that her birthdate was actually September 4, 1989, making her much older than originally believed. In fact, her biological mother alleged that Natalia was born in 2003 and was a child when the Barnetts adopted her. This information has added to the intrigue surrounding her case.
A docuseries titled “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace” aired in 2023 and provided insight into the experiences of the Barnett family. The program detailed their interactions with Natalia and the events that led to the charges against them.
It also presented Natalia’s perspective on the events that took place inside the Barnett home. The series is available to stream on multiple platforms, including Discovery Plus, Hulu, Max, Amazon Prime Video, and Fubo TV.
