Frogmore Cottage, located in the Frogmore Estate adjacent to Windsor Castle in Berkshire, has been a royal residence and was the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

The couple moved into the property in April 2019 after extensive renovations were completed, including new heating, wiring, and utilities.

The late Queen Elizabeth gifted Frogmore Cottage to the couple as a wedding present. The estate, with 33 acres of private gardens, was the location of Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception in May 2018.

The cottage’s refurbishment cost £2.4 million and was completed in April 2019, paid for by the taxpayer. However, Harry and Meghan agreed to repay this amount when they moved to the United States and relinquished their royal titles. They reportedly returned the money after signing a lucrative deal with Netflix.

Following their departure, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank briefly lived in Frogmore Cottage before relocating to Nottingham Cottage on the Kensington Palace grounds. Princess Eugenie is Harry’s cousin and has always been close to him.

In February 2023, it was revealed that King Charles had evicted Harry and Meghan from Frogmore Cottage following the release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare. The book promised to offer insight and honesty into Harry’s life and experiences, including his grief over the loss of his mother, Princess Diana.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex handed back the keys to Frogmore Cottage in June 2023, with the property now set to be rented out.

The cottage has undergone significant renovations, including a designer kitchen and refitted bathroom, and continues to be an important part of the royal estate in Windsor.
