Ghanaian gospel sensation Celestine Donkor has made headlines with her decision to stay mum on LGBTQ rights in the country.

Despite her eagerness to address political and sensitive issues, the award-winning singer-songwriter is holding back due to fears of facing backlash for expressing her opinions.

In a recent interview, Mrs. Donkor shared her concerns about the negative feedback musicians often receive when they venture into discussing controversial topics like politics or LGBTQ matters. She highlighted the pressure artists face to stay silent and focus solely on their music careers.

Acknowledging the challenges that come with voicing one’s opinions, Celestine Donkor emphasized that many musicians, including herself, are choosing to prioritize their craft and entertain their fans rather than risk stirring up trouble.

She explained, “As you have decided to share your opinion on issues of politics or LGBTQ, before you realise, some people will say you’re a musician, so you have to shut up and focus on your music career.”

Despite her decision to steer clear of contentious issues, Celestine Donkor remains a prominent figure in the Ghanaian music scene.

Notably, she was recognized as one of the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Music by the 3Music Awards Women’s Brunch in March 2021. She is also known for founding the Celestial Praise, an annual Gospel music concert that has garnered widespread acclaim.
