The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is embarking on an ambitious project to bring floodlights to the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram, in order to enhance training schedules for clubs and national teams.
The absence of floodlights at the Technical Center in Prampram has limited evening training on the astro turf, but this project, funded by proceeds from FIFA Forward 2.0, is set to change that.
GFA President Simeon Okraku emphasized the challenges of funding GFA activities and expressed gratitude for support from FIFA and CAF.
He also highlighted the GFA’s efforts to source partnerships from corporate Ghana through its Marketing department.
Okraku reassured the football community that the GFA’s accounts are regularly audited, and emphasized the importance of proper financial management in order to continue receiving support from FIFA.
Okraku also addressed the infrastructure challenges faced by the football community, acknowledging the role of the National Sports Authority in maintaining football infrastructure.
He cited the GFA’s investment in the construction of the first FIFA astro turf in the Upper East region, which has facilitated various league games.
Further, Okraku announced that the contract for the construction of floodlights on the astro turf in Prampram, funded by FIFA, has been awarded and will commence in the coming days.
This development is expected to enable coaches and players to train in the evenings, and provide opportunities for clubs competing in evening games, especially in African competitions, to fully utilize the facility in Prampram.
