Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has shown great sportsmanship by expressing his support for Ronwen Williams winning the Best Goalkeeper award at the recent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Williams, who is the captain of South Africa, put on an exceptional performance and was a key player in helping his team reach the semifinals for the first time since 2000.
His outstanding skills did not go unnoticed as he was rightfully awarded the Best Shot Stopper at the tournament.
Nwabali, who was also in the running for the best goalkeeper award, graciously acknowledged Williams’ achievement, stating, “To be honest, it’s not a piece of news to me him winning the best goalkeeper award because he deserves it. He is a very good goalkeeper. I congratulate and wish him well.”
South Africa ultimately secured third place in the tournament after a thrilling match against DR Congo, which ended in a penalty shootout with a score of 6-5 in South Africa’s favor following a goalless draw in regular time.
