Afcon 2023: Nigeria gov’t promises to reward players for commitment

The Nigerian government has pledged to reward the players for their hard work and commitment at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered this message to the players in their dressing room after defeating South Africa 4-2 on penalties in their semifinal match on Wednesday night.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time, with goals from William Troost-Ekong and a Teboho Mokoena 90th-minute equalizer.

Following the game, the Nigeria Football Federation released a statement on Twitter, announcing the government’s promise to reward the Super Eagles for reaching the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, along with Governors Dapo Abiodun and Duoye Diri, Minister for Youth Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, oil mogul Wale Tinubu, FIFA Council Member Amaju Pinnick, and NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, congratulated the team on their hard-fought victory over South Africa in the semifinals.

Nigeria will face the host nation, Côte d’Ivoire, in Sunday’s final as they aim to secure their fourth Africa Cup of Nations title.
