Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Major (rtd) Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, has passed away, as reported.
According to reports, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed passed away during the late hours of Wednesday, February 7.
Dr. Mustapha Ahmed served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso North Constituency from 2001 to 2016.
In March 2015, he was appointed as the Minister of Youth and Sports by then President John Dramani Mahama, succeeding Mahama Ayariga of Bawku Central.
However, his time as minister was short-lived, as he was replaced by Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye in a government reshuffle less than a year later.
In March of the following year, Dr. Ahmed made headlines again when he was sentenced to seven days in prison for contempt of court by the Financial and Economic Crimes Division of an Accra High Court.
This was due to his trespassing on a land he was instructed to avoid, for which he was fined GH¢12,000 by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe, with the alternative of serving an additional 30 days in jail if the fine was not paid.
Dr. Mustapha Ahmed’s burial is expected to follow Islamic customs.
