Nigeria’s head coach, Jose Peseiro, believes that his team’s victory over South Africa in the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations clash was well-deserved.
The Super Eagles secured a spot in the final of the continental showpiece after a thrilling 4-2 victory in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw after extra time against the Bafana Bafana.
William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring for Nigeria from the spot before Teboho Mokoena equalized in stoppage time, forcing the match into extra time.
Peseiro expressed his satisfaction, stating, “My players are happy. We deserve, the Nigeria people deserve and the Super Eagles deserve a very good victory against a very good team.”
Nigeria, aiming for their fourth AFCON title, will now face Ivory Coast in the finals on Sunday. Their last AFCON title victory was in 2013.
