Ghana’s Parliament Speaker, Alban Bagbin, has called on the national football team, the Black Stars, to revive their performance and showcase the true strength of Ghanaian football following their disappointing showings in recent years.

This comes after Ghana’s underwhelming performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which saw them fail to advance past the group stage for the second consecutive tournament.

Addressing Parliament, Bagbin emphasized the significance of the Black Stars as more than just a football team, stating that they are a representation of national pride, unity, and resilience.

He urged the team and their management to overcome their setbacks and illustrate the real potential of Ghana’s football to the world.

Ghana’s early exit from the tournament was sealed after finishing third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde, followed by back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, resulting in their elimination.

This marks the second consecutive AFCON in which the Black Stars have failed to secure a victory in the group stage, extending the country’s 42-year wait for its fifth AFCON title.
