Former Ghanaian national footballer Dan Owusu has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to seek input from former Black Stars players to help chart a new path for the national team following their disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars struggled in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, failing to secure a victory against Mozambique in the final group match, which would have secured their spot in the knockout stage.
This marks the second consecutive time that Ghana has been unable to advance past the group stage at the continental tournament, following their early elimination in the 2021 AFCON held in Cameroon.
During the 2023 AFCON, Ghana managed to secure only two draws, finishing in third place in Group B behind Cape Verde and Egypt.
During an interview with Bryt FM based in Koforidua, Dan Owusu, who was the top goal scorer in the Ghana Premier League three times, emphasized the importance of involving former Black Stars players in the GFA’s future plans for the national team.
“Our performance at the AFCON was dismal. It is crucial for the GFA to engage former Black Stars players and seek their ideas on how to improve the national team. They need to involve us because the situation is becoming unmanageable. In order to restore greatness to the team, they must include us,” he stated.
