Renowned Beninese musician Willy Mignon, known for his iconic hit song Minédji, has passed away at the age of 39. The talented artist died after suffering a seizure, as confirmed by his sister Christel.

Mignon rose to fame in 2006 with Minédji, a song that has remained a favorite in Benin for almost two decades. The Ministry of Culture in Benin hailed him as an emblematic figure of the first generation of urban artists in the 2000s, whose music defined an era and inspired many talents.

The musician, who had recently relocated to Burkina Faso for professional reasons, was admitted to a hospital in Ouagadougou where he tragically passed away.

His manager of nine years, Aziz Ademorou, remembered Mignon as a fighter who always believed in himself.

In an interview with Frissons Radio in Benin, Mignon reflected on his musical journey, stating that his first single Mindédji was a turning point in his career. He was also known for creating a unique rhythm and dance style called Noudjihou, inspired by Benin highlife music.

Mignon’s influence extended beyond Benin, as he produced the African Cup of Nations anthem for Burkina Faso’s national team last year. His music resonated with audiences in his new home, leaving a lasting impact on the music scene.
