Nikola Jurcevic, the former Croatian football star, has thrown his hat in the ring to become the next head coach of the Black Stars following the dismissal of Chris Hughton.
The entire technical team of the Black Stars was relieved of their duties after the team’s poor performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The Ghana Football Association has issued a call for applications for the vacant coaching position after terminating the contract of Irish-Ghanaian coach, Chris Hughton, setting Friday, February 2, 2024, as the deadline for submission of applications.
Local media reports have indicated that Nikola Jurcevic has submitted his application to the Ghana Football Association in a bid to secure the head coaching role ahead of other candidates.
The 57-year-old, who began his coaching career in 2002 with NK Zagreb, has managed a number of clubs, including Dinamo Zagreb, Austria Salzburg, and Slaven Belupo. He has also worked as an assistant coach for West Ham United, Besiktas, and Lokomotiv Moscow.
On the international stage, he has managed the Azerbaijan and Lebanon national teams while also serving as an assistant coach at the Croatian national team.
As a player, Jurcevic was an attacking midfielder who scored 51 goals in over 200 career appearances for clubs such as Dinamo Zagreb, NK Zagreb, Royal Antwerp, Austria Salzburg, and SC Freiburg.
